NEW DELHI: Advocate Rajeev Dhawan who represented the Muslim parties in the

Ayodhya land dispute

case on Tuesday said that he has been sacked from the case.
“I have just been sacked from Babri case by advocate-on-record Ejaz Maqbool who was representing Jamiat. I have sent a formal letter accepting the ‘sacking’ without demur. I have been informed that Mr Madani has indicated that I was removed from the case because I was unwell. This is total nonsense,” Dhawan said in a Facebook post.

Dhawan also said that he is no longer involved with the

review petition being filed in the Supreme Court

by the Muslim bodies.
Elaborating on the reason for his removal from the case, Dhavan said: “I have been informed that Mr Madani has indicated that I was removed from the case because I was unwell.”

He has referred Madani’s reason as “total nonsense. He has a right to instruct his lawyer Maqbool to sack me, which he did on instructions. But the reason being floated is malicious and untrue”, said Dhavan in the second post on the social media platform.
Shortly after Dhawan’s Facebook post, advocate-on-record Ejaz Maqbool said that it is wrong to suggest that Dhawan was sacked because of his ill health.
“My client (Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind) wanted to file the review petition yesterday. It was to be settled by Mr Rajeev Dhawan. I could not give his name in the petition because he was not available. It is not a big issue,” Maqbool was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind on Monday filed a review petition in the Supreme Court against its verdict in Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case.
Dhavan had vehemently argued the case for the Muslim side before a five-judge bench headed by then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi. He had argued for more than two weeks in the 40 day hearing of the matter.
The decision to sack Dhawan came within weeks of Supreme Court’s judgment in the Ayodhya land dispute case where is had allotted the disputed land for the construction of a temple and given five acres of land at an alternative site to the Sunni Waqf Board for the construction of a mosque.
