Centre revises listing, 38 coal blocks to be auctioned for business mining

NEW DELHI: The coal ministry on Thursday stated it has revised the listing of mines to be auctioned for business mining and now 38 blocks would go below the hammer as an alternative of 41 mines introduced earlier.
The revision within the listing contains addition of three blocks Dolesara, Jarekela and Jharpalam-Tangarghat (in Chhattisgarh) and withdrawal of 5 blocks — Morga South, Fatehpur, Madanpur (North), Morga-II and Sayang (in Chhattisgarh).
The coal ministry had earlier withdrawn Bander mine in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra from the listing of 41 coal blocks put up for public sale for business mining because the mine lies within the eco delicate zone of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve.
“Revisions have been made within the listing of coal mines provided for public sale… Accordingly, 38 coal mines are provided for public sale for business mining below 11th tranche of public sale below CM(SP) Act, 2015 and 1st Tranche of Public sale below MMDR Act, 1957,” the coal ministry stated in a press release.
Nevertheless, no purpose was offered by the ministry for the revision of the listing.
The ministry stated that there was “addition of Dolesara, Jarekela and Jharpalam-Tangarghat Coal Mines to the first tranche of public sale below the MMDR Act, 1957.”
The ministry additionally stated that there was “withdrawal of Morga South Coal Mine from the first Tranche of Public sale below the MMDR Act, 1957…(and) Fatehpur East, Madanpur (North), Morga-II, and Sayang Coal Mines from the 11th Tranche of Public sale below the CM(SP) Act, 2015.”
Based on the revised listing seven mines in Chhattisgarh might be auctioned.
As a part of the initiative of opening up of the coal sector and introduction of economic coal mining within the nation, the federal government launched the public sale course of for 41 coal mines on June 18, 2020, for business mining below 11th tranche of public sale below CM(SP) Act, 2015 and first tranche of Public sale below Mines and Minerals (Improvement and Regulation) Act, 1957.
