LONDON: England’s Sam Horsfield held his nerve to say a maiden European Tour title on the English Open on Sunday.
Horsfield took a one-shot lead into the ultimate spherical and carded a closing 68 to complete 18 underneath par, a shot forward of Belgium’s Thomas Detry.
Detry had recorded his ninth birdie of the day on the 17th to maneuver into the lead for the primary time, solely to bogey the final after seeing his par putt from three ft catch the sting of the cup and keep out.
That left Horsfield needing to play the final two holes in a single underneath par.
He birdied the 17th and after a cautious tee shot on the final, safely two-putted for par to finish a closing 68 and one-shot victory.
“It is loopy. I am unable to (describe my feelings),” Horsfield instructed Sky Sports activities. “On 17 we needed to go away a superb quantity and I hit an incredible shot there.”
England’s Chris Paisley, Welshman Oliver Farr and Sweden’s Alexander Bjork shared third place on 14 underneath par.
Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez, taking part in in a document 707th European Tour occasion, fired a last spherical even-par 72 to complete seven underneath for the event, 11 pictures behind the winner.
