The Recording Academy has launched a brand new recording of John Prine’s Angel From Montgomery with proceeds going to help the MusiCares COVID-19 Aid Fund.
Prine died in April at age 73 from problems related to the coronavirus. A two-time Grammy winner, the Recording Academy introduced in December that Prine could be honored with a 2020 Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award.
The brand new recording options artists, musicians and engineers who are also elected leaders within the Recording Academy, together with singer-songwriter Christine Albert, Brandon Bush of Sugarland, John Driskell Hopkins of Zac Brown Band and Jeff Powell, an acclaimed Memphis engineer/producer.
Tammy Damage, vice chair of the Recording Academy and one of many contributors on the recording, stated in a press release that Prine was recognized for his giving spirit and the brand new “Angel From Montgomery” recording is a tribute to honor that spirit.
