Sensex jumps 353 points to close at 41,143; Nifty reclaims 12,000-mark

NEW DELHI: Rising for the third consecutive day, equity inidces on Wednesday ended in green with the benchmark BSE sensex rising 353.28 points or 0.87 per cent to close at 41,142.66.
The broader NSE Nifty reclaimed the 12,000-mark to settle 110.60 points or 0.94 per cent higher at 12,090.25.
Top gainers in the sensex pack include Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, TCS, HDFC, HCL Tech, LT and Reliance, with their stocks up as much as 4.42 per cent. On the other hand, Hero MotoCorp, Maruti, Power Grid and Asian Paints were the major losers, with their shares down as much as 3.83 per cent.
On NSE, except for Nifty Media, all sub-indices closed in green with Nifty Metal, Realty, Financial Services rising up to 3.12 per cent.
According to analysts, markets were trading in the positive territory on the back of encouraging data points related to the domestic economy.
Other factors like substantial fall in crude prices, a rise in Indian rupee and positive Asian markets also helped the market move higher, they added.
Meanwhile, on a net basis, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 366.21 crore, while domestic institutional investors purchased shares worth Rs 601.86 crore on Tuesday, data available with stock exchanges showed.
